Main Functions of a Leaf:

1.    Photosynthesis

o    The leaf makes food for the plant using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.

o    This process is called photosynthesis.

o    Leaves contain a green pigment called chlorophyll, which helps absorb sunlight.

2.    Respiration

o    Leaves take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide, just like humans.

o    This helps the plant get energy from the food it has made.

3.    Transpiration

o    Leaves also release extra water into the air through tiny openings called stomata.

o    This process is called transpiration and helps the plant stay cool and absorb more water from the roots.

4.    Gas Exchange

o    Through the stomata, leaves take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen, which is important for both plants and animals.
