Class: Class 5 Subject: Science Topic: Basic Concepts of Science

Natural indicators are substances found in nature that change color when they come into contact with acids or bases, helping us identify the pH of a solution without using synthetic chemicals.

Examples of natural indicators:

·         Red cabbage juice: Changes color from reddish-purple in acidic solutions to greenish-yellow in basic solutions.

·         Turmeric: Turns yellow in acidic and neutral solutions but changes to reddish-brown in alkaline conditions.

·         Beetroot juice: Changes color depending on the pH but is less commonly used.

·         Litmus (from lichens): The original source of litmus paper; turns red in acid and blue in base.
